PhD. Leonardo Álvarez currently serves as the leader for Electric Grid Business, from the corporate structure at the Federal Government productive state enterprise, The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). CFE provides access to 45,626,211 users and generates 43% of Mexico´s electricity.
Leonardo´s work involves promoting renewable energy and clean technologies projects, specially the low-investment kind, less than 30 MW power plants to increase the reliability, sustainability and strength from the National Electricity System. He also focuses on promoting social and environmental projects to palliate energy poverty and other specific global challenges such as mitigation projects for the greenhouse gases effects.
He has a PhD in the Use, Management and Preservation of Natural Resources from the Mexico´s Northwest Biologic Investigation Center, a Master's degree from the Pan-American Institute of Senior Management (IPADE) and post-graduate studies in Marine Ecology and Marine Resource Management at Oregon State University.
His basic training studies are in Marine Biology .
He has over 44 years of professional experience within the public and private sector, being responsible for projects and programs to address and propose solutions to specific problematics at the national sphere, where energy and the environment converge.
As a public servant, he started he´s professional activities at the Mexican Petroleum Institute, dealing with energy and environmental issues. He later joined the official environmental sector where he held several management positions.
In the private sector, he has performed as director of environmental and city services companies.
